Wind turbine

Plan everything you will need for a successful space expedition

5

Where will you be travelling to?

5

What is your mission once you get there?

5

What things will you need to take with you?

5

What does your spacecraft look like; does it have any special features?

5

Could you write an advert to recruit crew members?

5

What will you wear – can you make a space explorer’s costume?

Tips

5

It might be a long trip!  What will you take with you to pass the time?

Space-Expedition

Build a future aircraft or spacecraft

5

What does your future aircraft or spacecraft look like?

5

You could draw a picture or use building blocks or other materials to build your aircraft

Think about how many people it will carry and where you will travel to

5

What does your landing site look like?

Tips

5

If you use a cardboard tube or straw, you can fly your design down a length of string

5

Can you land your spacecraft at your landing site?

Aircraft Weekly Challenge

Design a beautiful and balanced mobile

5

Collect some objects, some string and a hanger

5

Hang your objects from the hanger with string

5

Move your objects around until your mobile is balanced

5

You could make a butterfly or paper aeroplane to hang from your mobile

5

Can you add a second level and still keep your mobile balanced?

Tips

5

Take a look at this video for some ideas

Make, decorate and launch your model helicopter

Print and carefully cut out the Helicopter Template along the dotted lines

Colour in and decorate your helicopters. Fold along the solid lines and fix the bottom with a paperclip or tape

Use a container as a target. Can you drop your paper helicopter from above and have it land on the target?

Turn your helicopter upside down and drop it, what happens?

Can you make your helicopter spin the other way?

Think about:

  • Printing on card instead of paper – what difference does this make
  • Adding more paperclips
  • Which falls faster? The biggest or smallest helicopters?

Tips

Make sure you fold one wing towards you and one wing away

Throw up like a dart and watch it fly!

Creative Activity

Pick a person from the Osprey team and draw a new picture of them for our website.

When Osprey was set up over 10 years ago we wanted our clients to know what we looked like,
so we put our photos on our website. We have had the same photos for a while,
so it is definitely time for some new ones!

Can you help by drawing some new pictures of our team members to go on our website?
Have a look on the Osprey website: https://ospreycsl.co.uk/about-us/the-team/ and pick a person to draw.

Have a think about:

  • Who will you draw?
  • What job do they do in Osprey?
  • Make it colourful and interesting
  • If you know someone from Osprey, you could draw them doing their job.

Upload your drawing or email it to kids@ospreycsl.co.uk for a chance to win a prize.

We need you to design, build or draw a new airport

Where in the world is your airport? How big is it? What sorts of aircraft will be flying from your airport?

Plan your design and then draw or build it, and send us a picture.

You will need a runway, some planes. What else do you want at your airport?

How will the passengers get to your airport? What facilities are at your airport?

Have you ever been to an airport? What was it like? What was fun? Was there anything you didn’t like? How would you make the airport better?
